About Us
Why We Built Kupuma
Kupuma is a Chewa word meaning 'to rest from work.' It is also a promise — that when you are carrying the heaviest thing a person can carry, we will carry the rest.
Our Story
Kupuma began with a simple, painful observation: across the Western Cape, too many families face the loss of a loved one with no funeral policy, no savings set aside, and nowhere clear to turn. Many are migrant workers and their families, separated by provincial or national borders from the place they call home.
We built Kupuma to meet that moment without judgement — to combine practical, professional funeral care with genuine flexibility. Whether you need help with a single document, a full service, or a cross-border journey home, our door is open and our phone is answered.
Our name reflects what we hope to give every family: a chance, finally, to rest from the work of grief — even if only for a moment.

to rest from work
A Chewa phrase carried into a promise — for every family we serve in the Western Cape and across the SADC region.
What We Stand For
The Values Behind Every Call
Dignity First
Every decision is measured against one question: would this honour the person we are caring for?
Plain Language
No jargon, no confusing forms left unexplained. We talk to you the way we would want to be spoken to.
Steady Guidance
Grief clouds judgement. We carry the logistics so your family can focus on each other.
Borderless Care
Distance and documentation should never be what stands between a family and a proper farewell.
Who We Serve
Homeowners, Families, and Communities
From a single household in Khayelitsha to a family separated by the Beitbridge border, our work is the same — clear guidance, fair pricing, and steady hands.
Let Us Carry This With You
However your story looks, we are ready to listen and help you find a way forward.
